HMRC invites till system users to give notice of tax reduction activity

Article

Published: 13 Dec 2022 Update History

Disclosures are requested between 6 January and 9 April 2023 by businesses that are using till systems to reduce their tax bill.
In advance of the early 2023 disclosure period, HMRC has issued a form that businesses can use to give advance notice that they will be making a disclosure. The form can be used by individuals, nominated partners, company officers and agents. It cannot be used to report someone else for using till systems to reduce their tax bill (which should be done through the usual tax fraud reporting channels).

HMRC indicates that it will follow up with those who do not make a disclosure, which could lead to more severe penalties.

If the form is submitted on or before 5 January 2023, HMRC will contact the person submitting it to explain how to make the disclosure. Information to be included in the disclosure includes the total sales for the periods in which the business has been using the till systems, and the value of sales that have not been declared for those periods.
